JOB SUMMARY

The Cellar Lead is a critical position responsible for more complex cellar tasks including but not limited to, blending and filtering wine, physical wine and barrel inventory, performing basic wine analysis in the cellar (i.e. Turbidity, DO) and mentoring other cellar employees. This position is able to perform most cellar operations with little supervision. Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of experience in winery cellar operations. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Prioritizes his/her daily work schedule to meet bottling and winemaking requirements
  • Possess the ability to understand production requirements via verbal and written instructions
  • Must be able to learn and effectively train others on all work processes in accordance to SOPs
  • Effectively communicate with supervisors, lab, bottling and cellar personnel
  • Maintain a safe, clean and healthful work environment at all times
  • Support cellar Supervisor and Production Manager in driving efficiencies of cellar operations
  • May function as Weigh Master (if necessary)
  • Operate crush equipment and presses
  • Perform pump overs and punch downs and appropriately directs less skilled crew members in assisting with those tasks
  • Receive packaging material and locate in appropriate storage area(s) and complete proper documentation
  • Maintain inventory of cellar additives
  • Responsible for maintenance schedule for all equipment
  • Assist in bottling operation and sanitation
  • Responsible for staying current with empty barrels wash/rinse schedule and maintaining appropriate records
  • Maintain excellent attendance and safety record

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience working at a winery in the cellar
  • Experience leading Cellar operations strongly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational & interpersonal skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently within set guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of production/manufacturing operations
  • Prioritize while able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Possess the ability to work in a fast pace environment under pressure while keeping the emphasis on quality, accuracy and safety
  • Ability to operate various types of machinery to include, but not limited to, lift trucks, dump trucks, pallet jacks, hand trucks, etc.  May include the operations of any or all processing equipment including refrigeration compressors, chillers and condensers
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, work effectively in team/crew environment, adherence to all safety regulations, operating procedures and company policies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primary work environment is on the production floor
  • Position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments with varying noise levels
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and twisting in the performance of various tasks in a production environment
  • Ability to work at heights up to 45 feet
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry weights of up to 50 pounds at varying frequencies
